Notes
- IGI gives his baptism as 25 Dec 1782, but a document in Herefordshire Archives (B092/6) states that, although he was born in December of 1782 and baptised at the parish church, the record of his baptism was omitted from the parish register.
Baptisms of 11 of his children recorded in the Ledbury parish register 1813-27, all as children of Benjamin Mutlow of Homend, Tanner, and Mary Vaughan his wife.
See Herefordshire Archives J11/14/2, which refers to "Benjamin Mutlow Tanner and Mary Vaughan his wife", and AR69/27, which refers to money secured on a property in 1823.
Received a legacy of £100 in the wil of his mother Sarah, dated 1831, with a further £200 to be divided between his children.
Mentioned in the will of his cousin Sarah Mutlow of Little Birch dated 15 Apr 1834; she specified that if any dispute was to arise between her two brothers who were her executors then it was her "desire that it be refered to Mr Benjamin Mutlow of Ledbury Tanner, whose decision shall be final".
1841 census (M.Tonkin): aged 55-59 born Herefordshire, living in Homend Street Ledbury with 3 children and 2 servants. His wife is not listed although she did not die until 1848.
1851 census: widower, Bark Merchant employing 2 men, aged 68 born Ledbury and living in Homend Street Ledbury with 4 children and 2 servants.
Buried in a box vault in Ledbury Cemetery, along with his spinster daughter Sarah.
His will (of Benjamin Mutlow of Ledbury, Gentleman) proved at the Principal Probate Registry 30 Apr 1863; effects £14,000, executors William, Benjamin and Joseph Wickes Mutlow, his sons (details to be added).
