Notes

  • Baptised as "George ye son of John & Sarah Mason".
Presumably the George Mason of East Bridgford who voted in the parliamentary of election at the Shire Hall Nottingham on 18 Oct 1710 (Thoroton Soc RS XVIII 1957): the franchise consisted of freeholders of property worth at least 40 shillings a year,
and he voted for Scrope, Lord Howe (who was an ardent Whig nominated by the Duke of Newcastle).
No record has been found of his marriage (although note that a Georgius Mason was married at East Retford in Sept 1714 according to the LDS British Isles Vital Records; wife's name not given).
Certainly the father of Sarah, Mary and Ann Mason, who were baptised at East Bridgford in 1718, 1720 and 1724 respectively, and assumed to be the father of George Mason born c.1716.   The Elizabeth Mason who was baptised at East Bridgford 20 Dec 1713
is also assumed to be his daughter, although her parents' names were not recorded in the parish register.
Dead by 1 Dec 1738, when an inventory of his goods was drawn up for the purposes of probate (in which his surname is spelt both Mason and Mayson).  Nina Ella has transcribed this document, and states that the inventory shows that he had a high standard
of living: his goods were valued at £10/3/0d in his house £41/7/0d in his shop.  "Shop" probably means workshop, as it contained a wide variety of equipment (particularly carpentry tools), including weigh scales and beam, three wimbles, a spokeshave, a
chizel, a gouge, three barrels, a cheesepress, etc.
